Expect More of the Same

This is a fascinating story I think. A piece of software that is able to analize a song and give some notion about how likely it will be a hit.

Fascinating because it shows that there is some level of commonality between music, and what we as a whole like.

But it does mean that we'll also end up with just a lot of the same stuff if music companies are now using it. Since it is only based on past hits -- if someone came up with some new fusion of musics, would this predict it?

It would be interesting to know if it crosses cultures well? Or even eras? And does it work within or across genres of music? Anyone got a few thousand to spare so we could play with it?

And then if people are creating music with it (and all producing music high in its predictors), can they all be hits? Is its success dooming the software to failure?
