You say your neighbors are "sketchy"... try culture instead of race.
Hanging out with the Invisible Wolfe last night, it was interesting that being in a Marina or North Beach bar (his idea), I felt very uncomfortable. Almost ready to start shit with anyone who looks at me the wrong way. Wolfe, although still out of place himself with his Black Jewish accent and kinky hair, can blend in by throwing his arms up and spouting an occasional "whoo hoo" and high five. Similar and in contrast, later on in the evening we walked past a large group of people coming out of clubs. Them those people commonly described as being "from the hood", a culture which to me was still fairly familiar, myself having been "from the hood" right after I got "off the boat" and before having sold out to be "mister designer". Having past the crowd and the cops that were "watching" them, Wolfe commented... "that was sketchy". Sketchy in that he probably felt uncomfortable being in the middle of a large crowd of non-white people and all white cops blocking off several intersections around us. He does hate cops having been arrested once on a rooftop in the middle of the night by a police helicopter. Blah blah blah.

"A unit of cultural information, such as a cultural practice or idea, that is transmitted verbally or by repeated action from one mind to another.
Memes can be considered the unit of cultural evolution. Ideas can evolve in a way analogous to biological evolution. Some ideas survive better than others; ideas can mutate through, for example, misunderstandings; and two ideas can recombine to produce a new idea involving elements of each parent idea."
