ok, I admit to an overblown statement. We would have humor without the misuse of language. Slapstick is good, slapstick is funny, and we love when we collide on snowboards and fall of cliffs (okay, maybe not that one for me).

anyway that does bring up an interesting discussion. humor. what are different kinds of humor? how are they related other than in how they might amuse? how does it work in general and specific, and why are things funnier when they happen three times?
